Guernsey’s first zero waste market!

We have created a new shopping experience in the Market Buildings which allows customers to cut down on the amount of plastic that gets put in the bin, ends up in landfill – or worse, the ocean.

How it works:

Bring your own clean container, this doesn’t have to be fancy glass jars, we always encourage you REUSE what you can. For example, bring your clean tupperware, ice cream tubs – anything that is sensible for the item you intend to refill with! ?

Step 1: WEIGH EMPTY – firstly, weigh your container on our fancy scales which will print out a bar code with the container weight. You may want to weigh all your containers at once and don’t forget you can keep the label on and use it when you return!

Step 2: FILL with any item suitable for your container. Use our gravity dispensers to fill directly into your container or scoop from our glass jars! Our full product list will be released later this week!! Ekkk!

Step 3: REWEIGH your filled container on our scales. Scan the barcode so that the container weight is subtracted and then select your item on the screen and print a second label.

Step 4: PAY – take it to the checkout where one of our lovely members of staff will scan the labels and finalise your plastic free purchase! ?

Step 5: Go home and put your zero waste containers in the cupboards, ready to use — there is no need to unwrap piles of packaging that will fill your black bin bag… Enjoy!

Note that we will have paper bags for anyone that forgets their containers and you can also shop stickerless if you ask a member of the team for assistance! ?
